Tension and Trauma Release Exercise (TRE®) provides a safe and welcoming way to release everyday stresses. Practised over time, it brings a sense of embodied resilience in responding to everyday challenges. Much of what we experience in our life, when it is unexpressed or might not have had a safe space to be witnessed, lands up being stored in the body. Repetitive movements or improper posture can also result in unhelpful holding patterns within the body. Over time, this can show up as chronic pain in the body, gut issues or an overall sense of overwhelm or dis-ease.
TRE® utilises gentle guided exercises to safely activate the body’s natural mechanism of shaking to release muscular tension and soothe the nervous system. The shaking that emerges is a natural response of the body to reduce its own stress, whilst not always requiring a “revisiting of the story” of what caused the tension. The deep muscular relaxation that results activates the parasympathetic nervous system, releases less conscious tension patterns in the body and can also enable buried emotions to surface.
People often seek out TRE® for a multitude of reasons:
- Sense of disconnect from the body
- Chronic pain and aches
- Insomnia
- Feeling stressed and difficulty relaxing
- Curiosity to experience a new somatic experience
- Deep muscular relaxation
- Greater ease in regions of chronic tension
- Better balance on both sides of the body
- Increased body awareness
- Proprioceptive and interoceptive
- Soothed nervous system
- Sound sleep and improved digestion
Sessions are open to beginners or experienced participants alike.
